HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Southern detonates four more HRs; Model and Berea fall | Sports
The Lady Eagles (16-12) pushed their winning streak to seven games with a pair of road wins on Saturday.
Madison Southern has hit four home runs – two in each game.
The Lady Eagles rallied for a 4-3 win over Cooper in eight innings, then defeated Simon Kenton 15-3 in five innings.
Senior Sage Jackson had a homerun in each game, giving him the best of the team by tying eight over the senior. Senior Tessa Juett also has eight home runs this season.
In 28 games, Southern had a total of 25 home runs.
Southern forced more innings against Cooper, scoring once in the bottom of the sixth. The Lady Jaguars (18-12) raced through in the top of the eight, but the Lady Eagles scored twice at the bottom of the inning.
Samantha Cornelison was 2-for-3 with a home run, double and walk. Jackson was 2-for-3 with a home run. Ashlan Estep was 2 for 3. Juett was 1 for 4 and scored once, while Caylen Conrad was 1 for 4 with an RBI.
Jackson started in the circle and completed 3 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits, two runs and one walk with seven strikeouts. Juett pitched the last 4 2/3 innings, allowing a hit while striking out 11.
Jackson walked the distance in the circle against Simon Kenton (13-16). The senior allowed three hits, three runs (one earned) with one walk and three strikeouts.
Jackson was 2-for-4 at home with one homer, one double, three RBIs and scored twice. Conrad was 1-to-1 with a home run, a walk, three RBIs and scored twice.
Cornelison was 1 for 2 with a double, two RBIs and scored twice. Juett was 2-for-2 with an RBI, a walk and scored three times. Estep was 3-for-4 and scored once. Breanna Dawes walked twice and scored a run. Alyssa McAfee and Katelyn Bolin both walked and scored. Macie Hill had an RBI and scored once, while Morgan Menser scored one point.
Southern is expected to return to action Tuesday in Anderson County.
Western Hills at the head of Berea
The Lady Pirates (6-8) had just two hits and suffered a 16-1 three-set loss to Western Hills on Saturday in Frankfurt.
Berea Community has lost three consecutive games.
The Lady Pirates scored once at the top of the first, but the Lady Wolverines (17-8) had four runs in the first, two in the second and 10 more in the third set.
Taelor Alexander was 1 for 2 and scored a point. Chloe Rison was 1 for 2 and Deidra Caudill had a walk.
Berea is expected to return to action Monday in Jackson County.
The model falls
The Lady Patriots (14-13) suffered a 9-4 loss by Southwestern on Saturday in Somerset.
Model has lost three straight games.
The Lady Patriots are expected to return to action Wednesday in Danville.
