(Update: Addition of video, comments from train enthusiasts)
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — Families lined up Saturday morning, eager for a chance to see trains. It’s for the Eastern Cascades Model Railroad Club’s 25th Annual Open House.
Model train enthusiasts and train enthusiasts in general can board an outdoor model train and experience the indoor HO scale model railway up close at the club location on Modoc Lane.
I asked a train enthusiast, Bjorn Cobrae, how he got into trains.
“It was for our Christmas tree…I wanted one for our Christmas tree. I started looking for them and found some real model trains.”
Eastern Cascades Model Railroad Club President Brian Benjamin said, “Today is a great day for us. Everything works better than we expected.
The indoor model railway features over 1,900 feet of track. The open-air miniature train offers a 15-minute ride – and if that’s not enough, visitors can repeat the ride as many times as they like.
Club member Brian Cruickshank said, “It’s exciting to see the community come out and share their interests in model trains.
The 25th Annual Open House has been delayed due to Covid. The event is free to the public and continues through Sunday, for those who missed the Saturday fun.
